NEON NIGHTS PHOTO SHOOT

DATELINE x KARA PRINGLE — NEON NIGHTS SHOOT IN BELFAST

I recently had the pleasure of working with photographer Kara Pringle on a shoot in her loft studio in Belfast — a really stripped-back, creative space that felt perfect for experimenting with ideas and light.

The concept behind the shoot was Neon Nights — something that reflects the energy of late-night sets, city lights, and the more atmospheric side of what I do as Dateline. We wanted it to feel minimal but bold, with colour doing most of the talking rather than anything overly styled or forced.

One of the key elements we played with was an old telephone handset, which we used as a subtle nod to my Dateline logo. It became a simple but effective visual link — almost like a call coming in from the night itself. That idea of connection, communication, and music being the “line” between spaces felt like a nice thread to build the visuals around.

Kara’s approach to the shoot made everything feel very natural. Nothing was overcomplicated — just clean lighting, strong colour tones, and space to experiment. We leaned into neon hues, shadow, and contrast to give the images that late-night energy without overdoing it.

What I really liked about the session was how it captured a different side of the Dateline world. Outside of clubs and events, it’s easy to forget how much of what I do is about atmosphere and storytelling. This shoot gave us a chance to translate that into a still visual form, which is always interesting to explore.

It was also just a great day working with someone who has such a strong visual style. Kara brought a really calm but focused energy to the studio, which made it easy to try things out and let ideas evolve naturally as we went.

Overall, it felt like a simple concept that came together in the right way — clean, modern, and tied back to the core identity of Dateline in a subtle but intentional way.
